## Specific Exceptions [15 USC 7003]

**Citation: § 7003(a)** (excluded documents), **§ 7003(b)** (excluded notices)

**Q: Does E-SIGN apply to all documents?**
**A:** No. E-SIGN specifically excludes wills, trusts, family law documents, court orders, and certain critical consumer notices [§ 7003].

**Key rule (§ 7003(a)):** E-SIGN does not apply to a contract or record to the extent it is governed by laws relating to wills, codicils, testamentary trusts, adoption, divorce, or other family law matters.

**Rule:** E-SIGN has carve-outs for documents where the consequences of error are severe or where paper requirements serve important protective purposes.
